The optional R.E.A.D. Rally (Reading Enlistment and Development) Program begins with promoting and planning for the big "pep rally" to be held approximately two weeks prior to the Cash & Carry Book Fair. Your Book Fair and R.E.A.D. Rally resources are available online. These may include: assembly and skit ideas, posters, and promotion ideas and activities. This program has been very successful when used as a school-wide event. It will help everyone get excited about the upcoming book fair. Don’t forget to have copies of the Reading Promotion card ready to give out to the students.
The Cash & Carry Book Fair "Master Set-Up Box" will include table cloths, price sign holders with color-coded price signs (an exclusive of BFF which everyone has been absolutely thrilled with), necessary forms including a Packing List/Reorder Sheet.
Set up the number of tables that you will need. Your Books For Funds consultant can help you in making this determination by the number of titles you have been shipped.
Decorate the Book Fair area with the theme materials and artwork. Your students may have created some artwork/projects after the R.E.A.D. Rally.
The books will arrive pre-screened and pre-sorted in assortments by grade or age level and category. Boxes are clearly labeled. When four or more copies of each title are shipped, a set-up box for that assortment is prepared. For ease in arranging the books, it includes only one copy of each title. Use these single copies to make your final arrangement on the tables. Then simply unpack the remaining copies and place on top of the single copy.
For small quantities per title (sometimes done to give a wider selection of titles), you may want to stand them up or feature them in a basket or box for easy shopping. However if at all possible, all items should be displayed with the front cover visible. On the average, table-top sales are more successful than selling from shelves or racks.
Set up a station where you can collect money and your shoppers can "check out".
